Calgary mom’s group wins $1M on online LOTTO 6/49 Subscription!

Catherine Forsyth and her friends – Barbara Stromquist, Joanne Deaver, Laurel Gordon-Cooper, Shirley Eagle, Susan Cahill, Wendy DeMontigny, and Wendy Merriam – have raised their kids together and shared many girls’ nights together over the years. 

Now, the Calgary moms’ group is sharing a $1 million win on LOTTO 6/49!  

“We’ve all been friends for a long time,” said Forsyth. “We started as a parent group and now we’re also a grandparent group!” 

“We actually started a lottery subscription with a late friend about 10 years ago at a wine night, because we didn’t want to go in every week to buy and check tickets,” she continued. “She has since passed, but we carried it on!” 

The group agrees that Subscription Spot (which launched as an online option in 2021) is the way to go for them, after finding out about the win through a phone call. 

Forsyth purchased the winning ticket for the group through Subscription Spot. They won their prize in the Gold Ball Draw by matching the selection in the LOTTO 6/49 September 11 draw: 38272561-01 a white ball.  

When Forsyth received the phone call from WCLC about the win on the September 11 draw—she started calling everyone else up to share the news. 

“They all said the same thing,” she laughed. “’Oh my god!’” 

“We had cheers and giggles, and a few asked if it was real.” 

And this group knows how to spread joy. After meeting for years to enjoy conversation and laughter in each other’s company, they’re ready to enjoy even more together. 

“Everybody thinks it’s better than we even imagined,” beamed Gordon-Cooper. “We’re mostly 60-plus years old here. One gal already put a deposit on a new car!” 

If split evenly amongst the group, each winner would receive $125,000.  

“Most of us will be enriching our current lives,” Forsyth said. “We can do some travelling and help friends and family.” 

The group of eight were nothing short of giddy in their prize claim interview and say they intend to enjoy every minute of this win.
